Appropriate Addendum: In my time at this store, I had met many Southie original. One of whom frantically came in one day to get moving boxes.
“I’m going to Texas, Dave!”
“Oh yeah, where to?”
“A little BBQ joint in a little town my friend has down in south Texas.”
“Oh yeah, why are you headed down there?”
And he looks around, points in the area of the neighborhood, and looks me dead in the eye and says:
“You can’t sh-- a sh--ter”
Months later, I will have thought—jealously—of my friend many times.
Addendum: I neglected to mention that the good patriotic Irish people of Boston went ahead and had a St. Patrick’s parade anyway:
